Don Juan Mexican Restaurante: Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Roanoke Rapids

Unfortunately my experience was not the best. The food was not terrible, but it wasn’t great either. The rice was a bit dry and hard, although still edible. I ordered a fried mojarra, but it was overcooked. One thing that surprised me was that they didn’t seem to have extra sauces or even mayonnaise available to accompany the meal. The service was also disappointing. We had to get up and look for our waitress because she was nowhere to be found for long periods of time. I understand it may have been a busy evening, but it still affected the experience. To be honest, I probably won’t return. Some friends had already mentioned having similar experiences, but we decided to give it a try anyway.

This place is great in all the right ways. We showed up 15 minutes before close, we're cordially greeted and quickly ordered our food and drinks. Jose was kind and very attentive - even while managing the bar, serving a large group in the back, and beginning the closing process. He started us off with chips and 3 different salsas made fresh in house. The habanero salsa was very flavorful with a hint of sweetness; the roasted had just enough kick to it. Our shrimp appetizer came out and was astonishingly tasty. Entrees came next and Jose saw us wolfing down our food because we knew we were well past closing time. He came over and encouraged us to take our time and enjoy the food, no rush. All of the food was awesome, and the prices were quite modest. Overall incredible value, great tasting food, pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, and top-notch service. We saw the staff interacting genially and getting along as great friends, which is always a good sign. You "Don' Juan" to pass up this spot if you're in the mood for some authentic Mexican food with primo service at a reasonable price!

Food was delicious. The place was very busy but we got seated quickly. We ordered vegetarian dishes : veggie fajita, veggie taco, veggie chimichanga. They brought chips salsa quickly and then the food came out quick as well. Food tasted very good but then the server was very busy and didn't check on us. Otherwise a great place.

It was 3 in the afternoon, we were traveling home to Virginia, Richmond area. We had been on the road for several hours. we needed to find a place to eat everything was fast food.Yuck, then we saw this mexican restaurant that had a packed parking lot.And it was between meals. So we went in. Everything was delicious. The service was excellent as well. The restaurant was very clean too. We had some guacamole with our chips and Salsa. It was freshly made! The only negative thing I could find was they didn't have my favorite, chilli rellenos stuffed with cheese and potatoes. But the Tamales with shredded beef and enchiladas were excellent. First visit and we were impressed. Staff was very friendly and they were extremely kind to the downs young man at the table across from us, and this is uncommon in this day/age & warmed our hearts to witness this! Fajitas and lime Margaritas were just perfectly made & delicious. Free basket chips (and offered free refill) free salsa and hot sauce. Reasonable prices and prompt service much appreciated.

A good friend recommended this restaurant to me while I was in town, so I decided to try it out. Upon entering, the decor was typical of a Mexican restaurant and was clean. I was immediately greeted and seated. I noticed it wasn't busy at all, and that could be due to the time (3 pm). My server, Karl, came to the table and greeted me. He was very polite and professional. I'm not used to being called "Sir" at these types of restaurants unless it’s an upscale one, so that was different. He took my drink and food order after giving me time to lookover the menu. I ordered the Arroz Tejano, which consisted of chicken, shrimp, steak, grilled onions, and bell peppers on a bed of rice and cheese sauce. I substituted the steak with extra chicken. Meanwhile, he brought chips, salsa, and some other type of white sauce for them. The salsa, though good, was too spicy for my taste. Whatever the other sauce was, I did like it, though it had a bit of sweetness. Ultimately, I requested the cheese sauce, which came out a little runny and did not cling well to the chips, but it still tasted good. My food came out at a decent time, and not only did it smell good, but it also tasted better than I expected. The food was seasoned to perfection in my opinion and was reasonably priced. I recommend you give it a try, and I definitely will be back next time I'm in the area.

Been here twice now for a midafternoon lunch during our trips to visit relatives in Virginia. Both times have been very pleasant meals. Despite light crowds between normal meal hours they didn’t slouch off on either the food or the service, it was a pleasant experience with delicious food.

We visited DonJuan while en-route to DC and they didn’t disappoint! The food was fresh and very tasty! Loved every bit of the food we were served! The drinks were also top tier! And the customer service!!!let’s just say…we will come back again. The atmosphere ticks the box, the toilets are clean and the bottomless drinks ! We loved you DonJuan!
